In a significant move to address Nigeria’s escalating food crisis, President Tinubu has ordered the distribution of 20 trucks of rice to each of the country’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). This initiative aims to alleviate the food shortages affecting millions of Nigerians.

The government has allocated 20 trucks of rice to each state and the FCT. Each truck is loaded with 1,200 bags of rice, with each bag weighing 25kg. This large-scale distribution is part of the government’s strategy to provide immediate relief to those struggling with food insecurity.

The food crisis in Nigeria has been a growing concern, with many citizens facing severe food shortages. This distribution of rice is a critical step by President Tinubu’s administration to mitigate the effects of this crisis. By ensuring that every state receives an equal amount of rice, the government aims to provide widespread relief across the nation.

The announcement was made by Information Minister Mohammed Idris on Monday, July 15, following a Federal Executive Council meeting. Minister Idris emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing the food crisis and supporting Nigerians in need.

Mr Idris said,

“Each of the trucks of course is carrying about 1,200 25kg bags of rice,”

“This is part of the measures that government is taking in addition to so many others to ensure that the hardship being experienced by Nigerians is drastically ameliorated.”

‘’Each of the state governments has received 20 trucks of rice for onward distribution to the most vulnerable. This is a first step and the federal government will continue to support all the state governors and local governments, all the subnationals, so that the hardship being experienced by most Nigerians in terms of shortage of food supply is breached,”
