A tragic incident happened in Kaduna State as a well-known vigilante leader was killed during a land dispute in a forest meant for herders.
The problem occurred at Yardoka Grazing Reserve in Kubau Local Government Area, which is in Northern Kaduna. It happened on Sunday, June 28, 2025, according to a security expert named Zagazola Makama.
The man who died was identified as Saleh Shuaibu, also called Saleh Fiya-Fiya. He was the head of the Kaduna State Vigilance Service (KADVIS) in Kubau Local Government. He died during a visit by government officials to the grazing area in Yardoka forest.
The visit was meant to carry out a government order to give over 200 hectares of land to a company for investment. But the herders living in the area didn’t agree. Some said they weren’t paid any compensation, while others claimed they had been paid but still wanted more money.
According to another source from Anchau, which is the local council headquarters, the government officials were protected by armed police and DSS officers. However, the local people stopped them from entering the area.
While the officials were still trying to solve the issue, Commander Saleh stepped out of a vehicle to speak with the angry crowd. Sadly, during the talk, someone from the crowd stabbed him with a knife, and he died immediately.
