Nigerian singer Ayra Starr, who has been nominated for a Grammy, recently talked about her first time acting in a movie. She played a role in the American fantasy film Children of Blood and Bone and shared how exciting and challenging it was for her.
During a chat with CBS, Ayra explained that acting was very different from her usual music work. In the movie industry, she had to be more serious about time and always be early. This was a big change from music sets, where she was used to being treated like a star. The experience taught her discipline and made her work harder.
She said acting gave her a new level of respect for actors. According to her, actors have strong endurance and focus. She was surprised at how much effort and energy they put into each scene, and it made her admire them a lot more.
Ayra also shared that acting was something she had always wanted to do, even though she felt shy about it. While she truly enjoys making music, being in front of the camera without singing was a big step for her. She said the experience was amazing and that she learned a lot from working with others on set.
The movie she acted in is based on a famous book called Children of Blood and Bone by Nigerian-American writer Tomi Adeyemi. It is being directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and features well-known stars like Damson Idris, Idris Elba, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Cynthia Erivo, Viola Davis, and Thuso Mbedu.
The film is expected to be released by Paramount Pictures on January 15, 2027.
