United States President Donald Trump has decided to stop all trade discussions between the United States and Canada.
He made this known on Friday through a post on his Truth Social account.
The 79-year-old Republican explained that his decision was because Canada plans to introduce a new tax that targets American technology firms.
Trump also criticized Canada, calling it a hard country to trade with.
In his words, Trump said they recently learned that Canada — which already puts up to 400% tariffs on US dairy products — now plans to add a “Digital Services Tax” aimed at American tech companies. He described the move as a clear attack on the United States.
Because of this new tax, Trump announced that all trade discussions with Canada are now canceled.
He added that Canada would soon find out what tariff they will have to pay if they want to continue doing business with the US. This decision will be made public within a week.
