A well-known human rights advocate, Harrison Gwamnishu, is speaking out for a young widow who was arrested after her husband passed away. The couple had only been married for one year before the tragic incident happened.
According to Gwamnishu, the man who died worked with the Vigilante group in Anambra State. He was shot and taken to the hospital, but sadly, he didn’t survive. His death raised a lot of questions from his family.
Instead of waiting for answers, the man’s family blamed his wife and had her arrested. She was kept in custody for seven days. Gwamnishu explained that police officers at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) later cleared her of any wrongdoing after doing their investigation.
Even though she was found innocent, the late husband’s family didn’t stop there. Gwamnishu said they have now taken her to court again. This time, they are accusing her of breaking into her matrimonial home and taking a car that her husband had given her while he was alive.
Now, the young widow is once again facing legal troubles, even after being proven innocent the first time. Gwamnishu is calling on the public and authorities to ensure that justice is served and the woman is treated fairly.
He wrote;
