Breast cancer: Early detention will reduce mortality rate in Nigeria – ACPN

The Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN) has said that finding breast cancer early can help reduce the number of women who die from it in Nigeria.

This message was shared by the ACPN Chairman in Oyo State, Pharmacist Adebayo Gbadamosi, during a one-day training on breast care awareness. The event was organised by the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, and was aimed at educating community pharmacists.

Gbadamosi expressed concern that many people, especially those living in rural areas, still know very little about breast cancer and how dangerous it can be.

He pointed out that breast cancer is one of the leading causes of death among women in the country.

However, he also noted that the situation can be improved if the disease is detected early. Early diagnosis, according to him, can help reduce the death rate among women.

The pharmacist used the opportunity to urge all levels of government to create policies that will allow all healthcare professionals to work to their full ability. He said this will help reduce unnecessary competition in the health sector and improve teamwork.

Gbadamosi also highlighted the importance of community pharmacists in breast cancer awareness. He said they are usually the first people people go to when they have health problems, especially in local communities. This makes them important in detecting signs of breast cancer early.

He added that if the government properly recognises community pharmacies as key parts of the primary healthcare system, it will lead to big improvements in the country’s health services. These pharmacies are trusted by the public and easily accessible.

He ended by asking the government to continue supporting healthcare workers with helpful policies so they can serve the people and the country better.
