Nollywood actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo has asked former presidential candidate Peter Obi to come forward and explain how he was supposedly betrayed. Okonkwo, who served as the spokesman for Obi during the 2023 election campaign under the Labour Party, says he has nothing to hide.
Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Okonkwo clarified that during the campaign period, he never spoke to or consulted with any of Obi’s political opponents. He declared, “I never met with any other party. I was 100% loyal while I worked for him.”
Okonkwo also reminded everyone that when he chose to leave the Labour Party, he did so openly and made it clear that he would no longer be representing Peter Obi in any way. “I told the whole world that I’m no longer speaking for him,” he said.
He responded to critics calling him a traitor, saying they don’t truly understand what betrayal means. According to him, such accusations reflect more about the people making them than about him.
In July 2024, Okonkwo officially left the Labour Party. This was seen as a major political shift, considering how outspoken and loyal he had been during the last election. His exit was largely due to the ongoing internal conflicts within the party and Obi’s failure to resolve them.
Okonkwo made it clear that he was not rewarded with any money or property during the campaign. “I didn’t receive a house or any money from him,” he stated.
As a lawyer, he believes everyone has the right to their opinions but insists that he will not fight over this. “Nobody fights for God,” he said, hinting that he leaves everything to a higher power.
He also responded to Peter Obi’s subtle statement comparing his situation to that of Jesus being betrayed by one of his disciples. Okonkwo found this comparison strange. “How can I betray someone I’m no longer working for?” he asked.
Kenneth Okonkwo’s words show he is standing firm, denying any betrayal, and calling for the truth to be told plainly. Now, the ball is in Peter Obi’s court.
