Afrobeats singer Ruger, whose real name is Michael Adebayo Olayinka, has said that true friendship is rare in the Nigerian music industry.
According to him, an artist can only count one or two people as real friends in the music world.
During a recent chat on The Stanley Agu Show, Ruger shared that most friendships in the music scene are actually based on business.
He said he wishes he had known this earlier. In his words, “People aren’t really your friends in the music industry. If you’re lucky, you may have one or two people who truly want the best for you and will stick with you even when things go bad.”
Ruger added that people usually stay close to artists only because of what they can gain from them. Once you’re no longer useful to them, many people walk away. He said the truth is that everything in the industry is business, not real friendship.
