Farmers in Augie Local Government Area of Kebbi State have received dangerous threats from a terrorist group called Lakurawa. The group told them to stop using modern farming machines and go back to using cattle or they would be killed.
Reports from security expert Zagazola Makama say the terrorists made it clear that anyone seen using machines for farming will be executed. This warning has caused fear in the area, especially since many farmers had started using machines due to rising cattle theft.
A local person said, “The terrorists are now controlling how we farm. They ban machines, but when we use cattle, they steal them. We’re just trying to survive and sell our crops.”
An intelligence officer confirmed that these threats are real and have spread across several villages in Augie. People in these areas are now begging the Nigerian military and government to step in and protect them.
This is not the first time the Lakurawa group has attacked. Earlier in April, they reportedly killed 13 local security men, known as vigilantes, in Morai village. The vigilantes had tried to recover stolen cattle but were ambushed and killed.
When asked about the issue, Kebbi State Police spokesperson Nafiu Abubakar said he would look into the matter and find out more details.
