Kano court sentences TikToker to one year in correctional centre for cross-dressing video

A court in Kano has sentenced TikTok entertainer, Abubakar Usman, also known as Kilina, to spend one year in a correctional centre. The ruling came from Magistrate Hadiza Muhammad Hassan at Court No. 21.

The court said Kilina could avoid going to jail by paying a fine of ₦100,000. He was also told to pay ₦30,000 to the Kano State Film Censorship Board as a compensation for wasting their time.

The case against Kilina began when the board accused him of encouraging bad behaviour online. They pointed out that many of his TikTok videos showed cross-dressing and included vulgar words.

The court agreed with the board and found him guilty. The judge then gave the sentence and warned Kilina not to repeat such behaviour again.

The magistrate clearly told Kilina that if he does anything similar in the future, the court would jail him fully without allowing a fine.

Many of Kilina’s fans reacted on social media after the news broke. While some supported him, others said he had gone too far with his videos and needed to stop.
