Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has strongly stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will not win the 2027 presidential election.
In a video shared online, El-Rufai—now a top member of the Social Democratic Party (SDP)—said anyone who believes Tinubu can win again does not truly understand what is happening in Nigeria.
According to him, many Nigerians are disappointed in both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Tinubu. He believes most people have lost trust in them and are not likely to support them in the next election.
Despite promises from the current administration that the country’s economic problems will soon be solved, El-Rufai is not convinced. The government has been speaking positively, especially through the Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, who appeared on national TV to talk about the steps taken to fix Nigeria’s economy.
But El-Rufai disagrees completely. He said, “If you think Tinubu can win again, you must be living in another country. It’s just not possible.”
El-Rufai, who once supported Tinubu’s presidential bid in 2023, now says he doesn’t see any way for Tinubu to return to power in 2027. He believes that even the weakest political party would beat the APC if elections were held today.
He explained that the ruling party is losing support fast, and no amount of political switching or promises will save it. According to him, the people joining APC now are mostly doing it for personal gain—looking for contracts, government positions, or trying to avoid investigation from anti-corruption agencies like EFCC and ICPC.
He said these defections don’t worry the SDP and its allies. Their main goal is to connect with real Nigerian voters who are tired of suffering and looking for something better.
El-Rufai also revealed that he and other political leaders are working together to stop Tinubu in 2027. Among those in the group are former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and others. Their plan is to build a strong opposition and defeat Tinubu through the ballot box.
