EFCC arraigns man over alleged N39.1m visa fraud in Rivers

A doctor in Port Harcourt, Dr. Nekabari Dambere Nathan, has been taken to court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for allegedly scamming someone out of N39.1 million through a fake visa deal. He was arraigned with his company, Global Horizons Academy Ltd, at the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The EFCC accused him of collecting the money under false promises.

The charge said Dr. Nathan and his company collected over N39 million from Justice Toojah Iyieagbu, the managing director of Riskout Consults. They allegedly claimed they could help get visas for Canada, Ireland, and the United States between April and December 2023. According to the EFCC, that promise was not true.

Dr. Nathan denied the charges in court. The EFCC lawyer, A. Abubakar, asked the court to keep him in custody, while his own lawyer, Friday Otanjah, pleaded for bail, saying the doctor had health issues.

The judge, Justice P. I. Ajoku, ordered that he be kept in EFCC custody for now. The court set June 25, 2025, to hear the bail request, and November 27 for the trial to begin.

EFCC said they arrested Dr. Nathan after receiving a complaint. The report claimed that he pretended to be a travel agent and someone who trains caregivers. He allegedly collected millions from students with the promise of helping them get visas and jobs abroad. But after getting the money, he reportedly didn’t fulfill his promises and became unreachable.
