Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has shared his thoughts on the problems within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying it’s not just about Atiku Abubakar. According to him, the real issue is the clash of egos among different party members.
Speaking with journalists in Gusau on Wednesday, the governor explained that the crisis is fueled by personal interests and power struggles. He said it’s not only about one person, but a collective problem affecting the entire party.
Lawal admitted that all members, including himself, share in the blame. He noted that the internal disagreement is something the party is trying hard to fix. In his words, the problem goes beyond Atiku—it’s more about everyone’s pride and ambition.
While some people believe that President Bola Tinubu may be secretly involved in the PDP crisis, Governor Lawal doesn’t fully agree. He said outside influence might play a role, but it’s not the main cause of the division.
When asked if he is also part of the issue, Lawal gave an honest answer: “Yes.”
On the topic of Nigeria’s elections, Governor Lawal shared a hopeful view. He believes the country can still hold free and fair elections, despite some challenges in the system. He gave his own experience as proof, saying that he was able to win the Zamfara governorship race despite the power of the federal government working against him.
According to him, his victory showed that fair elections are possible. He became the first elected PDP governor in Zamfara, and he believes similar outcomes can happen again in future elections.
These statements come as the PDP continues its efforts to settle disagreements within the party and prepare strongly for the 2027 elections.
