A top member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, has said the party is still active and strong in Lagos State. He was responding to claims that the PDP has collapsed in the state.
Speaking with journalists on Monday after a party meeting in Lagos, George compared the PDP’s strong presence to the deep roots of a big tree, like an Iroko or Lebanon oak tree.
Recently, some PDP leaders in Lagos, including the 2023 governorship candidate, Dr. Abdul-Azeez Adediran (also known as Jandor), and the party’s spokesman, Hakeem Amode, left the party to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
These defectors claimed that the PDP had merged with the ruling APC. But George strongly disagreed, saying that claim made no sense.
George added that every political party goes through hard times, but the PDP is still standing firm because it has strong roots across the country.
He told party members not to worry, assuring them that the PDP in Lagos is still very much alive and active.
George also said he regrets that a senior PDP figure supported Jandor in the last election, which led to him becoming the party’s candidate. He now feels that support was a mistake.
In his final words, George made it clear again that the idea that the PDP has merged with APC in Lagos is completely false.
