CDS Christopher Musa arrives scene of latest k!lling in Benue

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has visited Yelwata in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State. His visit came after a deadly Friday night attack by suspected armed herders and bandits, which left many people dead.

This is just the latest in a series of violent events in the state. People in the area are scared as attacks like this have become more frequent.

General Musa is on a tour to see the damage caused by the attacks. Many people have been forced to leave their homes, and several villages are in serious trouble. He is also expected to meet Governor Hyacinth Alia at the Benue State Government House before ending his visit.

The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, is also visiting Benue State for official duties during this crisis.

Reports from the area say over 100 people were killed in the Friday attack. This led to protests from angry youths in Yelwata, who blocked the Lafia-Makurdi highway to demand action. The protests spread to Makurdi, the state capital, where police used tear gas to break up the crowd on Sunday morning.

President Bola Tinubu spoke about the killings on Sunday night through his official X account. He described the incident as “senseless bloodletting” and called for immediate action. He told security forces to find and punish those responsible, no matter who they are. He also advised leaders not to make comments that could make the situation worse.

The President said that this is the moment for Governor Alia to step up and act like a true leader by starting peace talks. He encouraged the governor to lead efforts to bring peace and unity to the state.

President Tinubu also pointed out that peace is possible if everyone works together. He said leaders must focus on fairness and justice to solve their disagreements.

Right now, the situation in Benue is still tense. People in the affected areas are calling for urgent help and long-term solutions to stop the violence and restore peace.
