He has been good to me – Reno Omokri reveals recent phone call with Atiku

Nigerian political commentator Reno Omokri recently shared that he spoke on the phone with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. He gave a short account of their conversation and used the opportunity to clear the air about some misunderstandings.

Even though Reno now supports President Bola Tinubu for the 2027 elections, he said he has no issues with Atiku. He explained that he supported Atiku in past elections and still respects him.

However, Reno wasn’t happy with Paul Ibe, who works as Atiku’s spokesperson. He claimed that Ibe wrongly accused him of speaking against Atiku. Reno denied this and said he has never insulted or criticized Atiku.

In a post shared on his official Facebook page, Reno said that Atiku personally told him during the call, “You, Reno, have credibility that others don’t have.” Reno added that Paul Ibe should have spoken to Atiku first before making such statements about him.

He also explained that Paul Ibe should get his facts right. Reno reminded everyone that it was actually Segun Showunmi who had criticized Atiku, not him. In fact, Reno said he did an interview with Daddy Freeze where he defended Atiku and called out Showunmi for attacking him. That interview hasn’t been released yet.

Reno strongly emphasized that even though he now supports President Tinubu, he has never said anything negative about Atiku, neither in public nor in private.

He urged Paul Ibe to understand that just because someone supports Tinubu doesn’t mean they are against Atiku. People shouldn’t be lumped into one group without checking the facts.

Reno also said he still has a good relationship with Atiku. He explained that his decision to stop supporting Atiku wasn’t out of bitterness. They still talk and remain on good terms.

In fact, Reno shared that apart from their recent phone call, he also contacted Atiku not long ago for help with a book he’s working on. He said Atiku is a good man, and even though he’s now with Tinubu, he will never speak badly of Atiku.

He ended by saying that he is known for being loyal. He reminded his audience that former President Goodluck Jonathan once called him the most loyal person in his administration. According to Reno, he only cuts ties with people who turn against him first.
