Popular Nollywood actor Daniel Etim-Effiong recently shared the story of how he ended up marrying his wife, Toyosi. According to him, it all started after his ex-girlfriend said no to his marriage proposal.

During a recent interview with Chude Jideonwo, the actor revealed that he was ready to settle down, but his girlfriend at the time wasn’t. This made him rethink his future.

He explained that the woman he was dating back then had different plans. She wanted to go to graduate school in the United States and wasn’t interested in getting married yet. They were both in South Africa at the time, and she wasn’t Nigerian.

Daniel said he felt disappointed because he was serious about building a life together, but she didn’t feel the same way. He realized then that anyone who wanted to be with him needed to be ready for marriage.

After that experience, he returned to Nigeria to work on a new film project. Coincidentally, Toyosi, who would later become his wife, was the production manager of that same project. Even though they had spoken before, this was the first time they met in person.

Toyosi had just come back to Nigeria from New York, and this was her first job in the country. The two had a deep conversation about life and marriage. When Daniel told her he was ready to settle down, she agreed and said, “Let’s do it.”

The couple got married in November 2017, about a year after they met. They welcomed their first child, a baby girl, in January 2019.

Daniel’s story shows that sometimes a setback can lead to something even better. His ex’s rejection eventually led him to find true love and start a family.
