Former Police Officers Arrested for Stealing a Fuel Tanker

The former policemen involved in the hijacking of a fuel tanker have been reported to have been arrested by the Nigeria Police Force. In the Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area, on May 29, 2024, a DAF SF Truck transporting 40,000 gallons of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) was taken over on the Ohodo-Opi Road.

The accused were apprehended in Anambra State. They were identified as former inspectors Otache Egbe, Abah Solomon, and James Mamah. During the operation, the motor boy and driver who had been taken hostage by the police were saved.

Significant things were found, including two AK-47 weapons, 105 rounds of ammunition, and several security uniforms, according to Police spokesperson ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who briefed the media. The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) is presently conducting an investigation into the arrested persons, who have acknowledged their criminal activities. The stolen PMS is still being sought after, and the suspects will shortly be put on trial.

IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police, emphasized that the police are committed to eliminating criminal elements, irrespective of their prior connections. He asked the public to assist the police in preserving safety and security across the country, warning that anyone engaged in criminal activity will eventually face consequences from the law.
