On Sunday, there was tension in Ikire, a town in Osun State, after the convoy of popular Fuji musician Alhaji Wasiu Alabi Pasuma was attacked. The convoy was moving through the area when some suspected thugs attacked it in the afternoon.
The attackers reportedly threw stones and fired shots at the convoy vehicles. The convoy included a black Hummer Jeep and a white Hilux truck, both of which were visibly damaged during the attack.
Eyewitnesses said the cars were hit hard, but it is still not clear if anyone in Pasuma’s team was hurt. A video shared on social media shows people shouting and running, with one person saying in Pidgin English, “Trouble has started in Ikire. They attacked us and fired guns, but God is with us.”
Journalists tried to get comments from Pasuma or his team, but they were not able to reach them before this report was made. Residents of the area were shocked by the attack, which caused panic and briefly stopped normal activities in the town.
Pasuma was said to be in Osun State for a performance, but the details of his visit have not been confirmed. The Osun State Police have not yet released any official statement or said if anyone has been arrested in connection with the attack.
We hope Pasuma and his team remain safe and that the authorities find those responsible soon.
