Terrorists are recycling old attack videos to spread propaganda – DHQ

The Nigerian military has dismissed a viral video that claims to show a recent terrorist attack on soldiers in Marte, Borno State. According to the Defence Headquarters, the video is an old clip being reused to confuse people and lower trust in the Armed Forces.

Major General Markus Kangye, who leads Defence Media Operations, said in a statement on May 16 that the video was carefully examined. Experts found it first appeared online in December 2020 and has nothing to do with any current incident. He said those sharing the video support terrorist groups and are trying to mislead the public.

Kangye also confirmed that terrorists did try to attack troops in Marte on May 12 at around 3 a.m., but the soldiers fought back bravely. Many of the attackers were killed, and others ran away with injuries.

He warned against spreading old or fake videos, saying such acts are meant to create fear and weaken trust in the military. He added that the Nigerian Armed Forces are tracking those responsible and will take action against anyone found sharing false stories to harm the nation.

The military urged all Nigerians to ignore the misleading video and follow only reliable sources of information. Kangye reminded the public that the Armed Forces remain dedicated to defending Nigeria and are making strong progress in the fight against terrorism across the country.
