Police arrest five for selling two-week-old baby in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested five people who were involved in stealing and selling a newborn baby. This happened after the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) carried out a deep investigation into the case.

It all began on May 5, 2025, when a man went to the Ajah Police Station. He said his 16-year-old cousin, named Happiness, had gone missing. At the time she disappeared, she was pregnant. No one knew who got her pregnant.

Due to money problems, the man’s mother had asked a woman named Nonye Osi to help care for Happiness for a while.

But instead of helping her, Osi worked with others to secretly move Happiness to another place.

When the girl was found later, she was no longer pregnant, and the baby had vanished. Because of this, the case was handed over to the SCID for more serious investigation.

Police later found out that the baby had been sold for N3 million.

The five suspects arrested by the police are: Nonye Osi, Akintan Adedayo, Jimoh Bashiru, Elizabeth Bishop, and Bukola Oladapo.

Police traced the baby to Agemuwo, a town in the Badagry area of Lagos. Thankfully, the baby was found alive and well. He is now being cared for by the Gender/Anti-Human Trafficking Unit. They are getting ready to return him to his real mother.

The Lagos Police have promised to continue protecting everyone in the state. They said they are working hard to make sure that all those involved in this terrible act will be punished.
