Sophia Momodu, the mother of singer Davido’s first child, Imade Adeleke, has filed a counter affidavit in response to Davido’s request for joint custody or unfettered access to their daughter. Davido, whose real name is David Adeleke, initiated the legal process on April 17, 2024, at the Lagos State High Court.

Sophia’s counter affidavit, marked LD/1587PMC/2024, opposes Davido’s request. She argues that their daughter, who is nine years old, has lived with her all her life, and she has been solely responsible for her welfare.

Sophia claims that Davido’s controversial lifestyle could negatively impact their daughter, mentioning his frequent travels and the presence of unsavory individuals around him. She believes these factors make him unfit for custody, especially considering his estrangement from their daughter and his resistance to child therapy.

Additionally, Sophia highlights Davido’s marriage to another woman and the tragic death of his son under questionable circumstances as further reasons why he should not have custody of Imade.

She asserts that she has been the primary caregiver and financial provider for their daughter, accusing Davido of failing in his commitments. Sophia also alleges that Davido has used his financial support as leverage to manipulate her into continuing a relationship with him.

Sophia describes a tumultuous relationship with Davido, marked by his unfaithfulness and emotional abuse. She recounts an incident in 2017 when Davido allegedly kicked her and their daughter out of his house during a vacation in Atlanta.

Despite these challenges, Sophia states her unwavering commitment to ensuring their daughter’s well-being. She emphasizes that she has never denied Davido access to Imade but insists that his visits be supervised and conducted outside her residence.

Sophia concludes that Davido is not fit to be granted custody due to his unavailability and inability to provide a stable environment for their daughter.
