NIN enrolment hits over 120m as NIMC gives reasons for price review

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has shared a new update about the National Identity Number (NIN) enrolment. According to the agency, over 120 million Nigerians and legal residents have now registered for their NIN.

This update came as NIMC also gave reasons for changing the prices of some of its services.

Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday, the Director General of NIMC, Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, said the commission has been working hard to improve how it serves Nigerians.

She explained that in the past two years, NIMC has expanded its systems and reduced corruption by 40%. This has helped them serve people better and faster.

On the topic of price changes, she said some charges were increased, while others were reduced. For example, the fees for changing personal details like your name or date of birth have gone up. But the fees for verifying your identity have been brought down.

She said the old price list had many unnecessary and high charges. Some people even took advantage of it to collect too much money from citizens.

Abisoye stressed that NIN registration is still free. However, if anyone wants to make changes to their data, they will have to pay a higher fee.

She added that the new price list was made to protect citizens from unfair charges. While some prices went down, others had to be adjusted upward.

As part of the changes announced on May 1, 2025, NIMC increased the cost of correcting a date of birth from N16,340 to N28,574.

Also, the fee to retrieve your NIN through a USSD code was raised from N20 to N50.
