President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is scheduled to visit Abia State on May 23 to officially commission the newly reconstructed Port Harcourt Road in Aba. This 6.5-kilometre road had been in a state of disrepair for over 15 years, but the administration of Governor Alex Otti has successfully rebuilt it, bringing it back to life.
The announcement of President Tinubu’s visit was made by the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, while he was inspecting damage to a section of the Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway. The damaged area is located at the Osisioma axis, part of the 56-kilometre Abia Tower of Peace to Rail Flyover road. This particular section is a separate project handled by the federal government.
Umahi shared his delight over the completion of the Port Harcourt Road, which had long been neglected. He expressed his pleasure that the road had been rebuilt to a high standard by the Abia State government and is now ready for President Tinubu’s official commissioning. The Minister commended Governor Otti for not only completing the road project but also for the excellent quality of the work done.
During his comments, Umahi noted that Governor Otti is a relative of his and that he takes great pride in seeing him do well in office. He mentioned that good governance runs in their family, and he is not surprised by Otti’s success. Umahi added that he would have spoken up if the work was not up to standard, but he is pleased to see it’s been done well.
Turning to the damaged sections of the Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway, Umahi explained that the damage stretches about two kilometers. The Minister ordered that the contractor responsible for underground drainage work that led to the damage be stopped, and he instructed that they report to the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja for further discussion on the issue.
Umahi also provided an update on the Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway reconstruction. The project, which began in 2013, is set to be completed by November this year. Once finished, President Tinubu will officially commission the newly reconstructed road.
This visit and commissioning of key projects by President Tinubu is an exciting milestone for Abia State, showcasing the commitment of both the state and federal governments to improving infrastructure and the lives of its residents
