Police Rescue 5-Year-Old Boy Chained and Starved by Father

Police in Bauchi have rescued a 5-year-old boy who was found chained and starved by his father for three days. The rescue operation took place in the Gwallagan Mayaka area of Bauchi after concerned neighbors reported the abuse.

On July 3, 2024, the ward head of Gwallagan Mayaka received information from a good Samaritan. This neighbor shared that his wife, Amina (not her real name), had seen the boy tied with a chain inside a room at their neighbor’s house. Amina checked on the boy and found him lying unconscious and chained.

The Bauchi Police Command, led by CSP Mubarak S. Baba, acted swiftly on the tip-off. They arrived at the scene and rescued the child. The boy, who identified himself as Hussaini Abubakar, revealed that his father, Abubakar Nuhu, also known as Wanzam, had confined and starved him.

Hussaini said his father had chained him to prevent him from allegedly stealing from neighbors. Abubakar Nuhu, 50, claimed a friend had advised him to take this drastic action.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Muhammad, ordered the immediate arrest of the father. The case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough investigation.

This incident underscores the importance of community vigilance in protecting children from abuse. The Bauchi Police Command’s quick response demonstrates their commitment to child welfare.
