The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and governors elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are currently in a significant meeting about the party’s direction. The meeting aims to tackle challenges faced by the PDP, especially regarding recent defections and internal issues.

The meeting also includes former PDP governors who continue to be active members of the party. Their experience is seen as vital in guiding the party through its current struggles.

A major point of discussion is the recent wave of defections that has affected the party. The governors and other leaders are looking at ways to address this issue while also preparing for the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, tentatively set for May 27. This meeting will be crucial for the party’s recovery and future strategy.

The governors and former governors are also focusing on building coalitions and resolving the ongoing issue related to the National Secretary position. Another important topic will be the upcoming convention in August, where critical decisions for the party’s future will be made.

At the beginning of the meeting, several governors were present. Among them were Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa, Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu, and Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara.

Former governors also made up an essential part of the meeting, including figures like Ahmed Muhammed Makarfi from Kaduna, Bukola Saraki from Kwara, Gabriel Suswan from Benue, Babangida Aliyu from Niger, and many others who have played key roles in the PDP’s history. Their contributions are expected to provide valuable insights into solving the party’s current challenges.
