Popular Nigerian singer Tems, who has won a Grammy Award, is asking people not to judge Africa based on what they hear or see in the media. She believes people should visit countries like Nigeria and Ghana to truly understand African culture.
Speaking at the 2025 Met Gala in New York during an interview with Fashion Bomb Daily, Tems encouraged people to travel to places like Lagos and Accra. According to her, visiting these places will give people a real feel of life in Africa.
Tems shared that Africa is full of beauty, which can be seen in its creativity, fashion, and culture. She believes the best way to understand Africa is by experiencing it directly.
She said she always recommends friends and fans to go on vacation to Lagos or Ghana. Instead of believing stereotypes, Tems thinks it’s better to see Africa for yourself and form your own opinion.
To her, Africa’s strength comes from the everyday life, traditions, music, and style that make it unique and colorful.
Tems also spoke about African music, pointing out that it’s more than just Afrobeats. She mentioned that people around the world often don’t know how many different styles of music Africa offers.
She explained that African music includes many genres such as Amapiano, Afrosoul, R&B, and Afro Jazz. She believes the world still needs to discover and enjoy more of what African artists have to offer.
