No petition against him – Lawyer gives update after meeting VDM in EFCC custody

Activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju has shared that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has yet to disclose the reason behind the arrest of social media influencer Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan (VDM).

In a Facebook post on Monday night, Adeyanju revealed that after visiting VDM in EFCC custody, he was informed that the agency could not provide any details about the arrest. Despite repeated inquiries, the EFCC stated there was no petition against him, contrary to what was widely reported.

He wrote, “I just arrived in the country this evening and went straight to see VDM at the EFCC office. I’ve just left him, and we still don’t know the reason for his arrest. The EFCC said there’s no petition against him despite our continuous requests.”

Earlier on Monday, BBC Pidgin reported that VDM had been arrested due to several petitions filed against him by some Nigerians. The report quoted EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale. However, the Commission later denied the claims, causing confusion about the true reasons for his detention.
