Trump claims he ‘could’ have Kilmar Abrego Garcia returned to US

Former President Donald Trump says he could easily bring Kilmar Abrego Garcia back to the United States with just one phone call. He made this statement during an interview with ABC News.

Trump was asked whether he could call El Salvador’s President, Nayib Bukele, to request the return of Abrego Garcia. In response, Trump said, “If he were the gentleman that you say he is, I would do that. But he is not.”

Abrego Garcia had been deported to a prison in El Salvador on March 15. Trump’s administration had claimed that he was a member of the violent MS-13 gang. However, his lawyers strongly deny that accusation.

Trump also mentioned that he is not the one making the final decision. “We have lawyers that don’t want to do this,” he said.

Interestingly, this comes after the U.S. Supreme Court ordered the government to help bring Abrego Garcia back. Despite this, Trump’s administration had argued in court that they couldn’t make it happen.

Now, Trump is suggesting that his personal influence could make a difference—even though legal and political processes have already complicated the situation.
