Russia, Ukraine war: US to withdraw if there are no concrete proposals – Rubio

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said it’s time for Ukraine and Russia to make serious peace proposals to end the war. He warned that if there’s no real progress, the United States will stop acting as a mediator in the conflict.

Later, US diplomat John Kelley spoke at the United Nations and blamed Russia for continuing the violence. He mentioned that Russian attacks have killed innocent people and made peace harder to achieve.

Kelley also said that Russia now has a good chance to bring peace, but both Ukraine and Russia need to agree. The US will support any real effort to end the war, but the main responsibility lies with both countries.

State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce repeated Rubio’s message, saying it’s time for both sides to present real plans to end the war. She added that President Donald Trump, who wants a quick peace deal, will decide what happens next. But if there’s no progress, the US may step away.

Even though both Kyiv and Moscow have taken some steps toward peace under Trump’s pressure, at the United Nations, they still blamed each other for the war.

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a short ceasefire from May 8 to May 10 to mark the 80th anniversary of World War Two victory. However, Ukraine said this was not enough and called for a longer, 30-day ceasefire to start immediately.
