A tragic incident occurred early Sunday morning in Thionville, northeastern France, when masked gunmen opened fire at a wedding, killing one person and injuring five others, according to the police.

The shooting happened at a wedding reception with about a hundred guests. It is believed to be linked to a drug trafficking feud. Around 1:15 am, some guests went outside to smoke when three armed men in a 4X4 vehicle, likely a BMW, began shooting.

Two of the injured are in serious condition, with one critically hurt. The attackers quickly escaped, and the origin of their vehicle is unknown. Thionville’s location near the Luxembourg and Germany borders has been mentioned.

Police believe the attack was aimed at specific individuals at the wedding, not the event itself. “The wedding was not targeted; it was people at the wedding,” said a police source. Bullet holes in a glass door were visible at the scene on Sunday morning.

This shooting follows a May 2023 incident in Villerupt, where rival gangs fought over a drug dealing spot, injuring five people. The Thionville attack highlights the persistent issue of drug-related violence in the area.
