Boko Haram kills 7 mourners in Borno

At least seven people have been killed and several others injured in a fresh Boko Haram attack in Borno State. The tragic event happened in Kopl village, located in Chibok Local Government Area, around 6 p.m. on Monday, April 28, 2025.

According to Modu Mustapha, Chairman of Chibok LGA, the attackers stormed the village during the final day of mourning for loved ones and opened fire on people gathered for funeral prayers. Many were seriously injured and taken to Mubi General Hospital in nearby Adamawa State for treatment.

Authorities believe the number of deaths may rise, as some victims escaped into the bush with gunshot wounds. Rescue teams are still searching for those missing.

This attack came just hours after another deadly ambush where passengers, including women and children, were killed along the Rann-Gamboru Ngala Road in Kala Balge LGA.

Senator Ali Ndume, who represents Borno South, condemned the rising violence. He revealed that just a day earlier, over 10 local vigilantes were killed in another attack between Hawul (Borno) and Garkida (Adamawa). He expressed deep concern, saying that more than 100 people have died in the past month in different coordinated attacks across several communities, including Sabon Gari, Kirawa, Pulka, Damboa, and Chibok.

The situation in Borno remains tense as residents call for better security and urgent government action.
