A sad incident happened in Calabar, Cross River State, as a 23-year-old nursing student was found dead in a drainage.

The young woman, Elizabeth Awhobiwom Ukah, was a student at the Federal Nursing Science College in Calabar. Her body was discovered early Saturday morning, April 19, 2025, along Musaha Umoh Okon Street in the Ekpo Abasi area of Calabar South.

At first, no one knew who she was. Local residents found her body facedown in the drainage and quickly called the police. When the police arrived, they turned her body over to begin an investigation.

A journalist, Agba Jalingo, later identified the body through a Facebook post on Wednesday, April 23. He shared that Elizabeth may have been carried away by floodwaters while she was returning home. She had gone to Good Friday mass and joined the Stations of the Cross at Holy Family Catholic Church in Big-Qua Town, near Marian Market.

Elizabeth was from Ohong community in Obudu Local Government Area of Cross River State.

The community is mourning her tragic and unexpected death.
