Army troops arrest suspected kidnapper in Kano, recover arms

The Nigerian Army has arrested a 55-year-old man suspected of kidnapping during a security operation in Sumana village, Tudun Wada Local Government Area of Kano State.

According to Capt. Babatunde Zubairu, the Army’s Public Relations Officer, the arrest was made on April 20 by troops of the Joint Task Force, Tudun Wada. The suspect was shown to the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Ahmed Tukur, during his Easter visit to troops at the Forward Operating Base in Falgore, Doguwa Local Government Area.

During the operation, the soldiers found several dangerous items including a homemade AK-47 rifle, a Dane gun, nine rounds of pistol ammunition, and military-style clothing like camouflage uniforms and vests. They also found a motorcycle seat that might have been used to hide weapons.

Brigadier General Tukur praised the soldiers for their bravery and professional work. He said the army will keep working with local authorities and other security groups to bring peace and safety to the area.

He added that this operation is an important success in the fight against criminals disturbing the peace in the region.

The suspect is now in custody and being investigated.
