A sad event happened in the Elega area of Abeokuta, Ogun State, where a man named Olamide reportedly killed his one-year-old son during a fight with his wife.
According to reports, the couple were arguing late on Saturday night when Olamide tried to hit his wife with an iron rod but mistakenly hit their baby boy, Ayinde, on the head. The iron rod was part of a weight he usually lifted.
A neighbor, Mrs. Bolatito, said she heard the wife calling for help around midnight, saying her husband had killed their son. Bolatito quickly rushed out and saw the baby in a terrible condition. She helped get a car to take the child to the hospital nearby.
They first took the baby to Trinity Hospital, but the child was declared dead. When they got home, the baby made some sounds, so they rushed back to the hospital, but the doctors again confirmed that he had passed away.
According to Bolatito, Olamide had a history of beating his wife, and she even lost a previous pregnancy because of his abuse.
The community chairman, Ramoni Adegbola, said he was alerted by neighbors about the fight. When he arrived, he saw the couple with the injured baby and helped organize a trip to the hospital. He also said that the husband was known to take hard drugs, which may have caused frequent fights in the home.
Olamide ran away after the incident, but later showed up at a police station.
The Ogun State Police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the story and said the case is being investigated.
This tragic event has shocked the community, with many calling for justice and better protection for victims of domestic violence.
