APC suspends Senator Utazi over alleged anti-party activities

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State has suspended Senator Chuka Utazi. The party said he was involved in activities that go against the party’s rules.

Senator Utazi, who served two terms (2015–2023) representing Enugu North Senatorial District under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), joined APC in 2024. However, the APC accused him of still supporting the PDP.

In a letter sent to the APC State Chairman, party leaders from Uzo-Uwani said the suspension followed a petition from Utazi’s ward in Nkpologu. They accused him of attending PDP meetings and supporting Governor Peter Mbah’s possible second-term bid in 2027. He was also accused of criticizing and speaking against APC in interviews and videos shared online.

The party said they invited Senator Utazi to explain himself to a disciplinary committee, but he didn’t show up. After looking into the complaints and reviewing video evidence, the committee found him guilty of working against the party. The APC leadership in the area then decided to suspend him indefinitely.

They said his actions were disappointing and not suitable for an APC member, and they acted according to the party’s constitution.
