The Lagos State Police Command has arrested two men suspected to be land grabbers in the Ishawo area of Ikorodu, Lagos. These men reportedly tried to attack homeowners at the Wood Island Estate, which they had invaded before.
Last year, over 100 houses in the estate were destroyed during a similar invasion by land grabbers. On Thursday, April 17, the thugs came back, but this time, the residents were ready and fought back.
According to a police source, one of the suspects, named Rasak Segun, was caught with a white pistol while trying to escape through a nearby estate. Local vigilante members caught him and handed him over to the police at Owutu Station. Segun later admitted to being brought in from Ajah.
Another suspect was found in a Toyota Corolla with three pump-action guns hidden inside. When the car was stopped, others in the vehicle ran away, but the driver was caught and given to the police. Officers found guns and charms during the search.
The Lagos Police spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrests. He said that on April 11, a resident and a vigilante member reported seeing Segun acting suspiciously. When police checked his bag, they found a pistol with two live bullets and a phone.
Investigations are still ongoing.
