The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has warned that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) might lose the 2027 presidential election if the party continues with its current problems. He said that both the PDP Governors Forum and some top party members, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, are not being honest or helpful.
Wike made this statement after Atiku started plans to form a coalition of opposition parties to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the next election. However, PDP Governors Forum Chairman, Governor Seyi Makinde, said they would not support Atiku’s coalition idea.
Speaking in Abuja, Wike said those supporting or rejecting the coalition idea are not being truthful. He believes their actions are based only on personal interests, not what is best for the party.
He also pointed out that impunity—where party leaders ignored rules and failed to respect the power-sharing agreement between the North and South—was one of the main reasons PDP lost in 2023. According to him, the same mistakes are being made again, especially by the PDP Governors Forum.
Wike explained that the Governors Forum is not a legal part of the party but only a group that tries to influence decisions. He warned that if this behavior continues, the party could face another defeat in 2027.
