I wanted Fubara removed, Tinubu saved Rivers from calamity – Wike

In a recent statement, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), revealed that he had hoped the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Sim Fubara, would be completely removed. Wike expressed that President Bola Tinubu’s actions saved Rivers from facing a major crisis.

Wike explained that President Tinubu’s decision to suspend Governor Fubara for six months and appoint a Sole Administrator helped prevent chaos and instability in the state. He also declared a state of emergency in Rivers during that period.

Wike emphasized that the president’s intervention was crucial in avoiding a disaster for the people of Rivers. During a press briefing in Abuja, Wike shared his personal view, stating that, although he was not pleased with the outcome, the president made the right decision for the good of the state.

According to Wike, while he wanted the governor’s full removal, President Tinubu’s action was the best solution to safeguard the state’s future. He urged people to acknowledge the president’s efforts in averting potential calamity. Wike noted that, in truth, the governor was already out of office, and the citizens of Rivers should be grateful to President Tinubu for his timely intervention.

The former governor pointed out that the Supreme Court had ruled that local government funds should not be disbursed without proper democratic election. He also mentioned the court’s ruling that no one should access state resources without approval from the appropriate channels. This legal framework made it clear that without proper governance, the state would face serious challenges.

Wike also made it clear that, as a politician, he wasn’t concerned about making the governor comfortable or satisfied. He explained that his responsibility was not to ensure the governor’s well-being, as political dynamics often play a role in such decisions. He stressed that it was President Tinubu’s intervention that spared Rivers State from a potential disaster.

Wike ended by sharing how he had to go the extra mile to speak with Assembly members in London to ensure their understanding of the situation. He concluded by reiterating that the president’s actions were instrumental in saving Rivers State from turmoil.
