On Sunday, April 13, Peter Obi, former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, visited Plateau State to offer his condolences after the recent killings in the Bokkos area.
In a statement released on Monday, April 14, Obi shared that he traveled from Abuja to Jos, the state capital, to meet with Governor Caleb Mutfwang and show his support for the people of Plateau State. He expressed deep sadness over the “senseless killings” and stated that such violence should never happen in a country not at war.
Obi also traveled to Bokkos to meet with victims of the attacks, including displaced children and other affected individuals. He expressed his grief over the destruction in the community, emphasizing that no Nigerian should live in fear in their own country.
He said, “What has happened in these communities is very saddening and utterly unacceptable. No Nigerian, regardless of where they live, should be killed or forced to flee their homes.”
Obi offered his condolences, adding, “My deepest sympathies go to the families and communities who have suffered tragic losses. Words cannot fully express the pain caused by such violence.”
Obi also donated N7.5 million to the victims to support them in their time of need. He called for compassionate leadership, stressing that now, more than ever, Nigeria needs unity and justice.
“My heart is with the people of Bokkos, the displaced children, women, and entire communities,” he concluded. “May the souls of the departed rest in peace, and may the people find the strength to rebuild their lives.”
