Shoprite to Close Abuja Branch Due to Economic Challenges

Retail Supermarkets Nigeria Limited, which operates Shoprite Mall, has decided to shut down its store in Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, starting June 30, 2024. The announcement was made by the company’s CEO, Dr. Folakemi Fadahunsi.

The closure is attributed to the challenging economic environment in Nigeria and the financial difficulties faced by the outlet. According to the circular issued to vendors, the decision follows a comprehensive assessment of the store’s financial status and the current business climate.

The company informed vendors that their services will no longer be required at the Novare Wuse Central Mall location. It also stated intentions to review financial records within the next 60 days to settle any outstanding balances with vendors.

In the circular, it was emphasized that effective June 30, 2024, Shoprite will cease operations at the Wuse, Abuja branch. All existing service contracts tied to the Novare Wuse Central Mall Store will be terminated accordingly.

The statement noted.

“We will cease operations at our Wuse, Abuja location as of June 30, 2024, and will terminate all existing service contracts associated with the Novare Wuse Central Mall Store. If there are any outstanding payments related to services specific to this location, we will conduct a thorough review of our financial records and promptly communicate the amount owed and discuss suitable repayment terms with the affected vendors,” the statement noted.
