Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has defended his goalkeeper Andre Onana after the team drew 2-2 with Lyon in the Europa League quarter-final first leg in France.
During the match, Onana let in two easy goals. The first came from a free-kick by Thiago Almada that went through everyone and passed Onana. Later, Onana dropped a shot, and Rayan Cherki scored from the rebound to equalize late in the game.
Despite the errors, Amorim stood by his player. He said after the game, “Onana? If you look at the season, I’ve made more mistakes than the players during these last months. It happens.”
He added that mistakes are part of football, especially when players are involved in many matches.
Manchester United will now prepare for the second leg at Old Trafford next week.
