Europa League: Why Man Utd will not sell Onana – Scholes

Paul Scholes, a former Manchester United player, has said the club might not sell Andre Onana this summer, even after his mistakes during the Europa League match against Lyon.

On Thursday, Manchester United drew 2-2 with Lyon in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-final. Onana made two big errors that led to both Lyon goals. First, he failed to deal with Thiago Almada’s free-kick, giving Lyon the lead. Later, he couldn’t hold onto Alexander Lacazette’s shot, allowing Rayan Cherki to score the equalizer.

Between these mistakes, Manchester United managed to score through Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirzkee, putting them ahead briefly in the game.

After the match, Scholes spoke on TNT Sports. He said that although Onana hasn’t been good enough, the club might not have enough money to replace him. “They need to look at the budget,” Scholes said. “Can you avoid spending on a new goalkeeper? It depends on how much money Ruben Amorim has to spend.”

The second leg of the tie will be played next week at Old Trafford.
