Nigeria Police Force celebrates maiden police day with grand ceremony in Abuja

On April 7, 2025, the Nigeria Police Force held its very first National Police Day with a colorful celebration at Eagle Square in Abuja. The day was set aside to honor the important work police officers do to keep the country safe and peaceful.

The event featured a grand parade where police officers showed off their skills and discipline. Different units of the police showcased special equipment like bomb disposal robots, K9 units, special intervention vehicles, and tools used in peacekeeping missions. It was a chance to see the police in action and appreciate their efforts.

Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, spoke about how this new Police Day is a symbol of the police force’s renewed promise to serve the people better.

He thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for officially declaring April 7 as National Police Day. He also promised that the police will continue to build stronger relationships with communities and work hard to protect everyone in the country.

President Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, praised the bravery and hard work of police officers across Nigeria. He said the government is committed to supporting the police by improving their pay and giving them better tools and technology to do their job.

Many important people attended the event, including state governors, members of the National Assembly, top police officers (both current and retired), and leaders from the business world.

The Nigeria Police Force thanked everyone who helped make the day a success and promised to keep improving to make Nigeria safer for all.
