Police officers from the Ihiala Division in Anambra State have arrested two men for their connection to the death of an 80-year-old woman, Mrs. Theresa Igbojonu. The suspects, Chidiebere Igboanugo and Emmanuel Ibeabuchi, are from the same village, Umunwaji Ogboro in Ihiala.
According to the police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the elderly woman was tied up by her legs and mouth before she was killed. A black CG motorcycle, believed to have been stolen from her, has been recovered by the police.
‘’Investigation of the incident has been ongoing since the receipt of the complaint on 2nd April 2025 by 11.30 pm. Meanwhile, a Joint Security Team during a patrol in Ihiala had earlier arrested Chidiebere Igboanugo on 5th April 2025 when the deceased son sighted the stolen motorcycle being driven by the suspect along Ezego junction in Ihiala.
Upon interrogation of Chidiebere, the Security Operatives acted swiftly yesterday 7th April 2025 and arrested Emmanuel Ibeabuchi, whom Chidiebere mentioned as part of the gang that committed the crime. Further information revealed that two other suspects known as Alla and Emeka, currently at large are part of their gang members.” the statement read in part
The Commissioner of Police has ordered that the case be moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Awka for deeper investigation. He also instructed officers to work hard in finding other suspects who are still on the run.
Once investigations are complete, the arrested suspects will be taken to court.
