The Nasarawa state government has stopped Trimadix Geomin Consult Limited’s mining activities at the Amba site in Kokona Local Government Area due to illegal operations.
This suspension followed accusations from Mr. Tim Eldon of Trimadix Geomin Consult Limited, who claimed during a press conference in Jos, Plateau State, last Friday that the state government was interfering with their operations.
In a press briefing held in Lafia, the state capital, on Wednesday, June 19, Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Mr. Kwanta Yakubu, emphasized the government’s dedication to combating illegal mining in the state.
Yakubu stated that any mining companies found breaking Executive Order 02 of 2022, signed by Governor Abdullahi Sule, would be shut down.
The government’s decision was in response to a complaint from a community leader about unauthorized mining in his area, which Yakubu said could threaten peace and security. He commended the security agencies for their cooperation in enforcing the executive order to ensure stability in Nasarawa State.
Yakubu said;
“On April 19, 2024, the Nasarawa State Government, in collaboration with security agencies, secured the Amba community from illegal mining activities, which could destabilise the area.”
