Nigerian activist Omoyele Sowore has praised former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, for standing firm during a heated argument with Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi. The confrontation, which went viral, happened during a Senate Ethics Committee hearing.
The session was about sexual harassment allegations involving suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and Senate President Godswill Akpabio. During the hearing, Ezekwesili and Nwebonyi clashed, leading to a tense exchange.
Speaking on Channels TV, Senator Nwebonyi claimed the argument started when Ezekwesili called him a hooligan and told him to keep quiet.
Reacting to the incident, Sowore took to Facebook to criticize the Senate. He described the upper legislative chamber as a “waste of resources” and suggested it should be scrapped. He also applauded Ezekwesili for refusing to back down during the exchange.
The viral video has sparked discussions about the conduct of Nigerian lawmakers and the role of the Senate in the country’s governance.
