The Supreme Court has ruled that Senator Samuel Anyanwu is the rightful National Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). This decision overturns previous rulings by the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal, which had removed him from the position.

A five-member panel of the Supreme Court delivered the verdict on Friday, stating that the issue of who holds the position of PDP National Secretary is an internal party matter and cannot be challenged in court.

Justice Jamilu Tukur, who gave the lead judgment, dismissed the previous ruling from October last year and overturned the majority decision of the Court of Appeal from December, which had upheld Anyanwu’s removal. Instead, the Supreme Court agreed with the minority judgment of Justice Ekanem, who had ruled that the lower court lacked the power to decide on the matter.

Additionally, the Supreme Court stated that Aniagu Emmanuel, the person who filed the case in the lower court, had no legal grounds to do so because he did not show how the decision affected him.

With this ruling, Senator Anyanwu remains the National Secretary of the PDP, and the case has been put to rest.
