“We’re working on it” Steve Bannon reveals efforts are being made to let Trump contest presidency again in 2028

Steve Bannon, former White House chief strategist, has hinted that efforts are underway to allow Donald Trump to run for president again in 2028. During an interview with NewsNation host Chris Cuomo on March 18, Bannon expressed his strong belief that Trump would seek a third term.

“I’m a firm believer that President Trump will run again in 2028. I’ve already endorsed him,” Bannon stated. He called Trump a “once-in-a-century” leader and voiced strong support for his return to the White House.

At the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in February, Bannon was heard chanting in favor of Trump running in 2028. However, the U.S. Constitution’s 22nd Amendment limits presidents to two four-year terms. When Cuomo asked how Trump could bypass this rule, Bannon responded with a smile, saying, “We’re working on it,” hinting that there might be “alternatives.”

Bannon finished second in a CPAC straw poll of potential 2028 GOP candidates, with Vice President JD Vance leading at 61%. Despite speculation, Bannon denied any interest in running for president himself.

His CPAC appearance also sparked controversy when critics accused him of making a hand gesture resembling a Nazi salute.

Bannon was released from prison in October 2024 after serving four months for defying a subpoena from Congress. The subpoena was part of the investigation into the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Despite legal battles and constitutional challenges, Bannon remains adamant that Trump will return in 2028. “We’re huge believers in democracy because we know how to get votes out,” he said.

It remains unclear how Trump and his allies plan to challenge the two-term limit, but Bannon’s remarks suggest they are already exploring options.
