Troops from Operation Lake Sanity 2, under Task Force Wulgo, rescued 34 women and children who were kidnapped by Boko Haram. The rescue took place in Mazuri, Itsari, Mudu, and Maleri villages near southern Lake Chad, Nigeria, on June 15, 2024.
Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, the Chief Military Public Information Officer for MNJTF in Ndjamena, Chad, announced the rescue on June 17. He also mentioned that three ISWAP fighters from the Jabilaram camp on Lake Chad surrendered to Task Force Wulgo today.
The fighters, named Babakura Abubakar (20), Abacha Kyari (28), and Mohammad Adam (29), are being questioned. Additionally, an airstrike on June 9, 2024, destroyed three suicide car bombs intended for a major terrorist attack in Kollaram.
These combined ground and air operations are weakening terrorist groups in the area. The MNJTF is dedicated to eradicating terrorism and ensuring civilian safety for long-term stability.
Major General Ibrahim Sallau Ali, the Force Commander, praised the troops’ bravery and reaffirmed the MNJTF’s commitment to restoring peace through vigilance and proactive actions.
